Mayor and councilmembers of city of San Jose, California signed a letter on July 10, expressing their solidarity with San Jose Iranian American community and their concern over the recent events in Iran.

We would like to express our solidarity with our San Jose Iranian American community.
On July 2 2009, we witnessed the hunger strike and vigil sponsored by the local Iranian American community at San Jose City Hall. The community spoke of their deep concern and anguish over the events that have unfolded following the June 12 election in Iran.
Like member of our San Jose, Silicon Valley and Bay Area community we are concerned and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the current conflict in the homeland of our Iranian American residents. It is imperative that the fundamental human rights of democracy and freedom of expression are respected.
